L.U. Finishes Pre-season with Close Loss to Manitoba

Bisons Edge T-Wolves, 74-72
McIntosh marks new career high with 28 points
October 26, 2013 — Winnipeg, Man.
The men's basketball team lost narrowly to the Manitoba Bisons on Saturday evening, 74-72.

The first half was marked by sloppy play and lots of turnovers, with the halftime score 24-23 for Manitoba.

Lakehead began the second half with more energy on defense, converting several baskets off turnovers and getting to the free throw line, going on a 10-2 run to begin the half. Manitoba would battle back before the 3rd quarter ended, tying things at 46 heading into the final frame.

The Thunderwolves led by 5 points with 3 minutes left but saw their lead dwindle as the Bisons made a final push, including some key free throws down the stretch.

Jamar Coke hit a 3-pointer with 7 seconds remaining to bring the 'Wolves within 1, 73-72, but could do no more than throw up a half court prayer as time expired.

Anthony McIntosh set a new career high with 28 points to go with 5 rebounds. Senior guard Dwayne Harvey scored 10 points with 10 rebounds and 7 assists. Justin Bell scored 9 points with 5 rebounds.

For the Bisons, Justus Alleyn led with 18 points, while Andrea Arruda scored 15; the two rookies combined for 17-of-20 from the free throw line. Forward Keegan Slijker had 10 points and 5 blocked shots.

Coach Matt Erdman:

"We competed more tonight but didn't execute at the most crucial times of the game. The most important thing is for our new guys to become fast learners because next week conference play starts and you can't get those games back."

The men's team begin their regular season schedule next weekend in Kingston vs Queen's followed the York Lions in Toronto.
