MALE: Jamie Searle, Lakehead Thunderwolves, Basketball
Jamie Searle of Belleville, Ont., led his Thunderwolves to their first Wilson Cup in history, beating Ottawa 71-69 on Friday and Carleton the next evening 77-62. In the Wilson Cup final, Searle, a fifth-year guard and OUA first team all-star, was named the Porter Player of the Game and awarded the Kitch Macpherson Trophy as the outstanding player in the Wilson Cup final. Searle posted a team-leading 23 points, including 14 points in the fourth quarter. He connected on eight of 15 field goal attempts, and was a perfect six-for-six on free throws. The night previous in the win versus Ottawa, Jamie had only two points. His two free throws in the final minute to tie the semifinal were followed by a turnover forced by Searle that led to Lakehead's dramatic win.
